Question
Q:- A car travels with the following speeds with the following durations:
[1] with 7 meters/second for 10 seconds
[2] with 5 meters/second for 8 seconds
[3] with 12 meters/second for 10 seconds
[4] with 4 meters/second for 3 seconds
[5] with 17 meters/second for 2 seconds
[6] with 17 meters/second for 2 seconds
[7] with 6 meters/second for 8 seconds
Find [1] total distance travelled , and [2] average speed
-
Step : 1
Distance travelled in each duration is as follows
[1] 7x10 = 70 meters
[2] 5x8 = 40 meters
[3] 12x10 = 120 meters
[4] 4x3 = 12 meters
[5] 17x2 = 34 meters
[6] 17x2 = 34 meters
[7] 6x8 = 48 meters
Total distance travelled = 70 + 40 + 120 + 12 + 34 + 34 + 48 meters
= 358 meters
-
Step : 2
Total time travelled = 10 + 8 + 10 + 3 + 2 + 2 + 8 seconds
= 43 seconds
mean speed = total distance / total time
=> mean speed = 358 / 43 = 8.3255813953488 meters/second
