Question
Q:- A car travels with the following speeds with the following durations:
[1] with 20 kilometers/hour for 7 hours
[2] with 16 kilometers/hour for 9 hours
[3] with 15 kilometers/hour for 7 hours
[4] with 4 kilometers/hour for 10 hours
[5] with 3 kilometers/hour for 6 hours
[6] with 6 kilometers/hour for 10 hours
[7] with 8 kilometers/hour for 4 hours
[8] with 13 kilometers/hour for 9 hours
Find [1] total distance travelled , and [2] average speed
-
Step : 1
Distance travelled in each duration is as follows
[1] 20x7 = 140 kilometers
[2] 16x9 = 144 kilometers
[3] 15x7 = 105 kilometers
[4] 4x10 = 40 kilometers
[5] 3x6 = 18 kilometers
[6] 6x10 = 60 kilometers
[7] 8x4 = 32 kilometers
[8] 13x9 = 117 kilometers
Total distance travelled = 140 + 144 + 105 + 40 + 18 + 60 + 32 + 117 kilometers
= 656 kilometers
-
Step : 2
Total time travelled = 7 + 9 + 7 + 10 + 6 + 10 + 4 + 9 hours
= 62 hours
mean speed = total distance / total time
=> mean speed = 656 / 62 = 10.58064516129 kilometers/hour
