  • By formula--
    First part of x =a/(a+b)x X
    = 6/(6 + 1)x 6
    =6/7 x 6
    =(6 x 6)/7
    = 36/7 =5.1428571428571

  • By explanation--
    Let a:b =p:q and p is first part of X
    So we can say (p+q) =X
    = b:a= q:p
    = b/a =q/p
    By adding 1 both of sides we get,
    = (b/a)+1 = (q/p)+1
    = (a+b)/a = (p+q)/p
    = (a+b)/a =X/p
    = a/(a+b) =p/X
    = a/(a+b)x X =p
    = 6/(6 + 1)x 6 =p
    =6/7 x 6 =p
    =(6 x 6)/7 =p
    = 36/7 =5.1428571428571 =first part of X
