• Q: Find the median daily wages from the following frequency distribution.

    C.d.w 7-17 17-27 27-37 37-47 47-57 57-67 67-77
    f   4 5 7 7 3 6 3

    where:-
    C.d.w → class daily wages , f → frequency. Share to Whatsapp

  • Given that data:
    where, C.f → cumulative frequency

     C.I   f     c*f
    7-17  4   4
    17-27  5   9
    27-37  7   16
    37-47  7   23
    47-57  3   26
    57-67  6   32
    67-77  3   35
    ∑N = 35

    Now, n = ∑N/2 = 35 / 2 = 17.5
The cumulattive frequency just greater than 17.5 is 23 and the corresponding class is 37 - 47 ,
    Thus,the median class is 37-47,
    since, L = 37, f = 7 ,cf = 16
    h = 10
    ie. Median = L + [h(n - c*f)/(f)]
    = 37 + [10 (17.5 - 16) / (7)]
    = 37 + [10 * (1.5) /(7)]
    = 37 + [15/(7)]
    = 37 + [2.1428571428571]
    = 39.142857142857
    = 39.14 answer

  • Where:-
    The median class is 37-47,
L= lower limit of median class.
f = frequency of median class.
cf = cumulative frequency of class preceding the median.
h = class size assuming class size to be equal.
